Supplements for Lucid Dreaming

Some people want to achieve lucidity only by "natural" means and think that using chemical supplements amounts to cheating. Although caution should always be used when taking supplements and drugs, it should be understood that everything about your existence depends on chemicals. Every thought and behavior you will ever have requires the interaction of neurotransmitters and energy metabolites. We eat, breathe, work, play, and sleep in a chemical soup.
Do Your Research First!
Do not take my word for it if I say "so and so pill will help you achieve lucidity," do at least some research on the net and see what people say about their experiences with any chemicals you are interested in. Everything has "side effects." I even know people who cannot drink pure water without extreme discomfort following. If you do try a new product, try small first. Why take unnecessary risks?
Cheating?
Lucid dreaming is not a sport. Yet. We are exploring our own mental-scapes and testing the limits of conscious experience. We are doing this in a virtual environment which was evolutionarily designed to simulate threats, and therefor requires gallantry in the face of our endeavor. There is no cheating here, but there is surely the possibility for foolishness. There is a fine line between bravery and stupidity. It is not brave to jump off of a cliff without knowing what is below, with no parachute, no preparation. When taking risks, and almost anything worth doing involves risk - enter the risks after calculation and preparedness.
Popular Lucid Dream Induction Supplements
There are several classes of nutrients/drugs which may support lucid dream induction attempts.
Stimulants heighten energy levels, and may or may not solidify focus
Nootropics are purported to enhance working memory, with or without the jittery feeling that stimulants may have.
Whole food can also be used to aid in your lucidity efforts: Sleeping, and more importantly dreaming, may be enhanced through what and when we eat.
Psychedelic trips may lead into lucidity, but are usually VERY stimulating, and will make sleeping nearly impossible while they are active.
Vitamins and Minerals, which may overlap categorically with the above ingestibles, can prime the brain for a lucid-friendly sleeping/dreaming.
The above broad categories of potential lucidity supplements can work, but for different reasons. Some require the REM-rebound which occurs after the chemical(s)' primary actions have subsided. Some do not interfere with your ability to sleep and directly help lucid dream induction by expanding working-memory without necessarily forcing you to stay awake.
