Datura: The Opposite of Lucid Dreaming
Datura, AKA Jimson Weed, Devil's Weed, Angel's Trumpets, is occasionally used to take a tryp. Rarely repeated. I've never messed with it, but I've been around it.
I've often wondered what it would be like to have full-on hallucinations, as detailed as dreams, but while awake. Well, it would probably be an experience like what ingesting datura gives you. Rather than psychedelic, the poisons found in most parts of this plant are dissociative, and bring on a delirium. Rather than become more aware of where you are - like in a lucid dream - you would instead have diminished reasoning. You would be immersed in a fantasy, follow it where it goes. |
Think about being in a dream but not having a paralyzed body. Sounds dangerous. Sleep walking is not the same as dreaming, and the sleep walker is somewhat aware of the world around them. But if you were in an actual dream and moving around in the physical world, anything could happen. On top of this, the tropane alkaloids responsible for the effects of datura are essentially poisons, and can cause serious damage or death. Not for most people.
