I'm going to assume in this post that you already know a little bit about Lucid Dreaming, but not everything. I'm going to share with you a few simple tricks which can boost your lucid dreaming and allow you to experience that much more.
If you don't already know what lucid dreaming is, it's the ability to become self aware in your dreams, therefore allowing you to guide and control them to varying degrees. (I have a post here if you need it – 'What Is Lucid Dreaming')
So without further delay, here are the lucid dreaming hacks and tricks!
1. Spend a little longer doing your reality checks
Reality checks are something that you're taught to do early on to lucid dream, but it's important to spend a little bit more time doing them. Think about it this way, the idea is to practice them throughout your waking life so that they will eventually show up in your dreams, right?
Well, surely it would make sense, then, to spend a little longer than 10 seconds doing them. If you only reality check 4-5 times a day, that's less than a minute spent being mindful and doing reality checks in an entire day, which makes them less likely to show up in your dreams.
I'm not saying to spend HOURS doing reality checks, just maybe a little bit more than you are currently, as sometimes that's all It takes to make a significant difference in your dreams.
2. Highlight important bits in your dream diary.
You should be keeping a diary of your dreams and writing them down every morning, but also, try and highlight important bits in your entries.
Things like places, people, actions and feelings.
Also, try and notice recurring themes, as these can be used to induce lucid dreams in the future. They're known as 'dream signs'. If this is all simple to you and you already knew this, then try and do the following regarding your dream diary as well -
3. Optimise your brain chemistry.
By this, I mean give yourself the BEST chance of having lucid dreams. Make sure your mental energy is constant and healthy. Don't drink every single weekend to the point of destroying brain cells, and consider doing the following to give yourself the best chance of lucid dreaming:
4. Try LOTS of different techniques!
This is something I ALWAYS suggest to my readers, and that is because it works! If you ONLY try ONE technique and it doesn't work, don't just give up or keep trying for no result, just try something new.
If you're not getting results with a particular technique, give that a break and try a new one for a week or two. It's by far the fastest way to find out what works for you. Combine this with your dream diary tips as well, and write down which ones ACTUALLY work for you.
Everyone is different, so what works for me might not work for you. This is why I always say to try new techniques and I'd even suggest to try a DIFFERENT technique every single week to give yourself the best chance of finding one that works for you fast.
Of course, write everything you do in your dream diary so you know which ones give you results, and also give each technique your best shot, don't just try it for one night and then give up.
5. Consider some 'Brain boosters'
Now I'm referring to things which can boost your chances of lucid dreaming. Here, we're talking about -

Also, try and notice recurring themes, as these can be used to induce lucid dreams in the future. They're known as 'dream signs'. If this is all simple to you and you already knew this, then try and do the following regarding your dream diary as well -
- Give each entry a title that described what the dream is about. (For example, a dream about zombies running towards you on a hill could be titled 'The hill of zombies'). This will make it MUCH easier to find a certain dream when you're looking back on them.
- Type up your dream diary to make it easily searchable. If you are like me and have LOTS of dreams, and LONG dream journal entries, make it into a word document on your laptop so that you can SEARCH for dream signs and specific things easily without flicking through hundreds of pages of dream diary.
- Under the title, write HOW you became Lucid, if you did. This is KEY! It will let you see which techniques are working for you and what to focus more of your effort on. Write the particular techniques and reality checks you did that day to cause you to become lucid.
- Get enough sleep in a comfortable bed
- Drink water throughout the day
- Use Lavender scented pillow spray
- Take a multivitamin and supplement Omega 3 (It's known as 'brain fuel')
- Try using Lucidimine!
